Handheld: Are mostly battery powered personal fans and only have the power to cool a small area, such as a persons face. \r\n \r\n Table: These smaller bladed fans have a short stand for placing on desks or tables. \r\n \r\n Clip-on: Can be clipped onto a shelf or bed post to cool a small area. \r\n \r\n Tower: These fans are tall and thin, they are a good alternative to a stand mounted fan. \r\n \r\n Stand (Pedestal): Have 14 to 20 inch blades and are quite capable of cooling a mid-sized room. \r\n \r\n Wall Mount: About the same size as a stand mounted fan, these fans allow the body of the fan to be bolted to the wall, providing extra height and range for the cooling breeze. \r\n \r\n Ceiling: Sometimes with light fittings combined, these fans provide a constant breeze emulating from the top of the room, down. Ceiling fans can make an attractive addition to a rooms décor. \r\n \r\n Window Mount: Window mounted fans are fitted to an open window and work by cooling outside air and circling it around the room. Some models can come with twin fans and variable speed controls. \r\n \r\n Floor / Box: Designed to be very portable, they can be moved around the house easily to provide cooling wherever needed. \r\n \r\n Air Cooler: These machines work a little like an air conditioner by cooling water in a tray, the cooled water is positioned just in front of a fan which circulates the cooler air. These devices are a nice alternative to a fan, but lack the power to cool a large sized room.\r\n

Choosing more blades for your fan will not necessarily mean that it will provide more cool air than a fan with fewer blades. Other factors that contribute to the fans power will be blade size and the power of the motor.
